Meet of Champs info

The Meet of Champions (MOC) is a fun and competitive end-of-season event that brings together the fastest swimmers from all five teams in Division 5. It’s a great opportunity for swimmers to showcase their hard work and compete at a high level!

🐟 How Swimmers Are Selected

Swimmer placement is at the discretion of the coaching staff.
While selections are generally based on the fastest times in each event, coaches may also consider:

  • Stroke legality
  • Meet attendance
  • Team strategy and needs

Being selected for MOC is a great honor and a reflection of a swimmer’s performance throughout the season.

Stay tuned — swimmers selected to compete will be contacted directly by the coaches.

Let’s go Barracudas! 💙💛

Each team brings the following swimmers per event:

  • 8 Freestyle
  • 4 Backstroke
  • 4 Breast stroke
  • 4 Butterfly
  • 3 Individual Medley (IM)
  • 2 Freestyle Relay Teams
  • 2 Medly Relay Teams

CHAMPIONSHIP MEETS

Full information from WHALe Policies and Procedures V 7.0 - last rev. Sept 2024 document - pages 11-12

1) General. The League will run a Meet of Champions (each, a “MOC”) for each division and an All Star Meet (“ASM”) annually. The League (WHALe) will receive all monies made from these meets unless otherwise agreed upon by the League.

2) Awards.

The League will give out two (2) awards at the MOC for each division:

A regular season division champion and a sportsmanship award.

a) Regular Season Division Champion Award Determination. The regular season division champion will be determined first, by the best dual meet record and, if two or more teams have the same dual meet record in the division, then second, by the team that won the head-to-head matchup between such tied teams, then third, by the highest aggregate point total accumulated by such teams during all dual meets; provided, that if either such team won by forfeiture in one or more meets, the aggregate point total calculation for each team will be determined by eliminating (i) all forfeited meets from each team and (ii) if the number of meets included in such calculation for each team are not equal, the lowest scoring meet(s) until the number of meets included in such calculation are WHALe Policies and Procedures V7.0 – Date Page 12 of 30 equal, then adding together the number of points scored by such team non-eliminated meets. For example, if (x) Team A and Team B each have a dual meet record of 4-0 in the regular season, (y) Team A and Team B did not swim against each other during the regular season, and (z) Team A won two (2) dual meets by forfeiture, then the two (2) forfeitures would be eliminated from Team A’s calculation and the two (2) dual meets where Team B scored the lowest number of points would be eliminated from Team B’s calculation, and the aggregate point total for each team would then be calculated.

b) Sportsmanship Award Determination. The sportsmanship award winner will be determined by a vote of the teams in such division. Each team will receive two (2) votes to allocate as follows: one vote from the League Representative and one vote from the Head Coach.

3) Eligibility. To be eligible to compete in the MOC for a team’s given division, a swimmer must have competed in a minimum of two (2) regularly scheduled League dual meets. To be eligible to compete in a relay event at MOC, a swimmer must be competing in an individual event at such MOC. The League Executive Board does not have discretion to waive these requirements.

4) MOC Events and Entries. The events to be swum at a MOC will be the same as the events swum at regular season dual meets.

Each team will be allowed two (2) entries per relay event, eight (8) entries per freestyle event, four (4) entries per back, breast, and butterfly event, and three (3) entries per IM event.

a) Any swimmer may swim-up up to one (1) age group (including due to a current TAGS time); provided that, for relays, at least two (2) swimmers in a relay team must be swimming in their correct age group (the correct age group for swimmers with a TAGS time shall be deemed to be the one (1) age group above the age group designated by their birth year). Each team will provide bona fide event seed times for seeding the meet from any official meet for the current season. If a relay does not have a seed time for an event, it may be submitted without a seed time. No changes of the swimmers in any heat will be made after the League deadline except relay swimmer changes according to these Policies and Procedures (swimmer must already be entered to swim in MOC). Any requests for extensions to League deadlines for submissions must be made and approved in writing at least one (1) hour prior to the deadline. Failure to (i) submit entries by the League deadline or (ii) obtain an extension pursuant to the previous sentence will result in the entire team having no entries in the MOC.

b) The League shall use its reasonable best efforts to ensure that the sites chosen to host a MOC will have sufficient time to complete all events (weather permitting). In the event that events are eliminated from one MOC due to facility time constraints (not caused by weather), then such events shall be eliminated from all other MOCs.
